In the install HTML doc, in step 13, after codelisting 13.2 the warning says: Warning: If you used the stage3 tarball you do not need to install a system logger. The stage3 tarball includes sysklogd. I just compiled the kernel using 1.4rc stage 3 PPC tarball. It does NOT already include Sysklogd.
which doc is this, online or included on the ISO ?
This is in the online doc at: http://gentoo.org/doc/gentoo-ppc-install.html Right after codelisting 13.2. The 1.2 iso doc does not include that *red* warning paragraph. Also, while verifying this, I noticed that the 1.2iso doc has the emerge path: Code listing 21 # emerge sys-apps/sysklogd the online doc has: Code listing 13.2 # emerge app-admin/sysklogd I did an emerge -s sysklogd and came up with the same as the online doc. I don't know if you want this filed as a separate bug, or not.
okie the ISO doc is old 9and was valid when the ISO was made). I'll toss this to rajiv to take care of teh current online doc, thanks Rajiv: This is valid, can you please remove the notes about the sysklog fromthe ppc isntall guide? TIA
seems like 1.2 tarballs only include a syslogger. < 1.2 or > 1.2 do not include loggers. i'll make this change. as for the docs on the iso, they are always out of date (since we do no create new isos when the docs are updated). i suggest always following the online version.
fixed in cvs.
