gentoo-vaio marijuana # gdmsetup Could not access GDM configuration file I can't setup my gdm after the update to 2.8.0.1-r1. I've tried to emerge the ~x86 package but the problem weren't solved. Gdm starts with no Theme Greater and i can't setup nothing.
Great machine name, but not so great bug assignment. ;p This has nothing in common with bugzilla product, please file all ebuild-related bugs under Gentoo Linux, as instructed when submitting the bug.

I found the problem I was having. Even using the current gdm.conf 2/3 of all the options are turned off.
David that sounds like a different problem. daniele, your problem is that you can't start gdmsetup at all, correct? What version of gdm do you have currently installed? (equery list gdm)

Experiencing a similar problem and can hopefully provide information required from the original poster. The version I have is gnome-base/gdm-2.8.0.7 My error is as follows: gentoo afv-13 # gdmsetup (gdmsetup:8544): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
Forgot the last line of the error message, sorry. gentoo afv-13 # gdmsetup (gdmsetup:8544): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed. Could not access GDM configuration file.
Sorry for a 3rd consectutive post. After running GDM from the console (no X running) and then logging in, running gdmsetup works. I still get the "Authentication Rejected" message but that is out of the scope of this bug.
