Since glibc 2.3.4.20041102 openoffice-bin-1.1.4-r1 hangs at the beginning when not started as root. For glibc up to 2.3.4.20040808 everything is ok as well as when openoffice is started as root. openoffice and openoffice-bin have many qa problems that need to be fixed by upstream. They are not fixable by us. As for running an office suite as root that just seems dumb.
