Exactly the same problem here with the same error (EE) fglrx(0): [agp] unable to acquire AGP, error "xf86_ENOMEM" (EE) fglrx(0): cannot init AGP The system is P4 3.0 GHz with a fanless Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600XT kernel 2.6.12-gentoo-r9, ati-drivers-8.14.13-r2 have tried manually loading intel_agp, using internal and external agp module in the fglrx-generated xorg.conf etc. nothing seems to help. Regards Chris
Could you please post the output of 'lsmod' and attach 'dmesg' after one of these failed attempts?
try to enlarge the memory mapped to agp from the motherboard BIOS/firmware settings, using a 5min google search shows that it could be the issue in the case of nforce2 chipsets...
Created attachment 66621 [details] output from lsmod
Created attachment 66622 [details] output from dmesg
Tried bumping the agp apeture size from 256M to 512M (256M on the card). Results same. Just for jollies, dropped it to 128M just to see what would happen. Results same. No luck with anything from google :-(. any Gentoo-released kernel 2.6.11 worked really well with ati-drivers 8.10.19, including excellent DRI support, but the new one drivers and 2.6.12 kernels only work in 2D... Regards Chris
(In reply to comment #7) > any Gentoo-released kernel 2.6.11 worked really well with ati-drivers 8.10.19, including > excellent DRI support, but the new one drivers and 2.6.12 kernels only work in 2D... Thanks Chris! I can confirm that DRI is working under 2.6.11.12 and ati-drivers 8.10.19 Very much appreciated! Take care, V.
