for the impatient people, and for those who might not know how to do a patch,
ebuild can be found here http://www.tsunam.org/files/overlay/media-sound/abcde/

Main comment though for this is that from testing 8ish different cd's it's
stable on amd64

The FAQ should get dodoc'ed too.

Why use /etc/abcde/abcde.conf instead of /etc/abcde.conf?
Comment 5 Joshua Jackson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-26 16:14:03 UTC
I just basically took the ebuild in the tree already and redid it. You'd have to
ask the maintainer of the project why its /etc/abcde/abcde.conf instead of
/etc/abcde.conf. I just feel that /etc/abcde/abcde.conf keeps the /etc directory
a bit cleaner. Also, I can see 2.3.0 getting into the tree as seems to be the
trend of "major" releases from the project, however the minor revisions tend to
be ignored.

Patch applied. When bumped to 2.3.0; the behaviour appears to change.

Before:
-------
chainsaw@adrastea gentoo-x86 $ abcde
Grabbing entire CD - tracks: /usr/bin/abcde: line 867: [: : integer expression
expected

Multiple exact matches:
#1: ---- folk 9a0a9d0c The Corrs / Borrowed heaven ----

#2: ---- rock 9a0a9d0c Corrs / Borrowed Heaven ----

Which entry would you like abcde to use (0 for none)? [0-2]:

After:
------
chainsaw@adrastea gentoo-x86 $ abcde
Warning: Something went wrong while querying the CD... Maybe a DATA CD?
The disc does not contain any tracks. Giving up...

For good measure, my emerge info:

abcde-2.3.0.ebuild

The ebuild with the patch applied.
Comment 8 Joshua Jackson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-27 15:58:57 UTC
I know that as part of 2.3.0 they changed the way a cd is read. Previous
versions would just pretty much exit without a status message. Now it should
give the message you are getting. I've yet to run into that though, so not
entirely sure why you are getting it on a cd?
Comment 9 Joshua Jackson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-28 03:20:47 UTC
in the tree so the bug is no longer valid, thanks to Ryan Phillips.
