In the kernel upgrade guide found here: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/kernel-upgrade.xml, I think the symlink useflag (noted in part 4) should be noted BEFORE the part 3 where is explained how to merge the new kernel. If you follow the guide steps now (it's a _guide_, which means you should be able to follow the steps) you first merge the new kernel and AFTER that you find out about the use flag and if you want to use it, you need to merge it again. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/kernel-upgrade.xml 2. Read the steps 3. Notice how the use flag is explained after the merging of the kernel Actual Results: You need to re-merge the kernel sources. Expected Results: symlink USE flag should be noted before merging the kernel.
Don't panic, you don't have to re-emerge them, it's enough to do symlink with "ln" - as always...
I know, but that's not really the problem. I think for the comfort of the user reading the guide the useflag should be noted before the merging of the kernel so that that method can be used also the first time a user upgrades the kernel.
I think users should be conscious about what are they going to do and always advise to them to at least look through the guide and see what is its content. Symlink information is groupped in doc into one section and should remain like that, for the comfort of all the other users who look only for such info. Sorry, marking WONTFIX.
