After emerging the 3.78 ebuild X would not start, reporting that it could not find default font "fixed". I removed all the fonts that the ebuild created in the misc directory & ran mkfontdir. X reported the same error. I ran just "X" by itself, instead of startx. Same error. Luckily enough I had another linux install on this computer, and copied fonts.scale & fonts.dir back into misc/ and it is now working properly again. This is bad joojoo ;)
this really is bad ju-ju :( working on it, now..
I saw that r1 was in portage & emerged it for the heck of it. X starts ok now, but every gtk2 app now gives me this error: ** ERROR **: Failed to match any font. This could be due to a broken Xft configuration, or if you run XFree 4.1.0 due to a bug in libXrender. For more information about this, read http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68030 When running xawtv I get this also: Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-ledfixed-medium-r-semicondensed--39-*" to type FontStruct I did etc-update after compiling it. Updated everything.
...should've gone to sleep before reporting this... tis when I re-emerged the older version... never mind ;)
I downgraded to 3.73-r1. That did not fix the problem. I upgraded xfree from 4.2.1, to 4.2.1-r1. That fixed the problem. I did not try xawtv 3.78 with xfree 4.2.1-r1. Thought this might be of some help...
Xawtv version 3.79 is out. I have filled this bug (#11143) for a version bump request. May help.
3.80 is now out...
sorted in 3.80 I think. please test.
Nope, it did not fix it at all. 3.81 is out now too. Still had to copy the entire misc/ dir over from a differant distro.
ok, now that that is clean -- 3.80 installed fonts into ../xawtv instead of misc which means from now onwards, this shouldn't be an issue any more. Also, 3.81 is now in ~x86 profile so please test and report.
works great for me..
