VMware 4.5.2 installs all right using Kernel 2.6.12-r6. vmware-config.pl compiles the necessary modules. No errors. While loading vmnet an error occures. The module is not loadable. In tune VMware 4.5.2 does not start. If the module is loaded while the system starts up, the system will hang. Waiting about two hours will make it finish starting. If you ain't got that time, the only way out is hard resetting it, booting without VMware modules loaded. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Copile Kernel 2.6.12-r6 with your standart setup 2. run "vmware-config.pl" 3. Actual Results: vmnet-module does not load, in tune VMware Workstation 4.5.2 refuses to run. Expected Results: vmnet-module loaded, VMware Workstation 4.5.2 running. The error is found with kernel 2.6.12-gentoo-r9 too. After starting VMware with these kernels (2.6.12-gentoo-r[69]) a regular shutdown hangs at the network device. Only a hard reset helps or halting the system with "halt -f".
It appears that you're having an error with VMWare-supplied code. Since you have purchased VMWare and are entitled to support, I recommend you excercise your right to it and file this with them. I'm more than willing to add any necessary patches to the ebuild, but am not willing to spend my time doing free support for a commercial company. This error is obviously not ebuild-related, and therefore does not belong here.
