Comment 1 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-10 02:10:25 UTC
Are you using LVM?
Comment 2 Martin Wegner 2005-08-10 03:18:51 UTC
Yes.

I do have

filter = [ "a|/dev/hde|", "a|/dev/hdg|", "r|.*|" ]

in my /etc/lvm/lvm.conf if you mean this.
Comment 3 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-10 03:32:04 UTC
Well, this sounds like misconfigured LVM. I cannot test this, I have lvm2 setup
but the server has no CDROM.
Comment 4 Martin Wegner 2005-08-10 03:54:14 UTC
But lvm2 was not updated and I didn't modify the config file either.
Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-08-10 06:06:39 UTC
post the exact boot output
Comment 6 Martin Wegner 2005-08-10 13:31:51 UTC
* Mounting proc at /proc
* Mounting sysfs at /sys
* Mounting /dev for udev
* Configuring system to use udev
* Populating /dev with device nodes
cdrom: open failed
cdrom: open failed
* Setting /sbin/udevsend as hotplug agent
Comment 7 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-08-10 15:13:34 UTC
so which of these triggers that error ?

tar -jxpf /lib/udev-state/devices.tar.bz2 -C /dev

cd /dev ; /sbin/udevstart

/sbin/dmsetup mknodes

/sbin/lvm vgscan -P --mknodes --ignorelockingfailure
Comment 8 teidakankan 2005-08-10 19:16:21 UTC
I saw the same error message when I upgraded from udev-064-r1 to 065 (on two x86
boxes) Also, when I tried to play a DVD in mplayer or xine I got an error
message about "could not find dev/dvd". I checked /dev and /dev/dvd was there
and appeared to be linked properly. Just downgrading to udev-064-r1 made
everything work OK again. I do not use LVM.
Comment 9 Greg Kroah-Hartman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-11 16:25:03 UTC
Should be fixed in 066 release.
