Description Dustin 2002-11-03 22:49:59 UTC
Whenever I start the NVidia Xserver configurator, no matter which options I pick
(I have a 19'' monitor that goes up to 1600x1200 and neither AGPGART, NVAGP, or
PCI work) it boots back to text mode with the message "No screens found"
Comment 1 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2002-11-04 08:56:27 UTC
could you post more of the error ?
also, does `lsmod` show the nvidia driver as loaded ?
Comment 2 Dustin 2002-11-04 14:45:29 UTC

try #emerge pciutils
then #lspci
and paste it here
Comment 4 Daniel Robbins (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-12-10 10:01:48 UTC
This is caused by your monitor not having DDC support, I think. If you choose
one of the pre-defined resolutions, it should work. The 1.4 release livecd will
have beefed-up DDC handling and should resolve this issue.
Comment 5 Daniel Robbins (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-12-16 11:17:40 UTC
Question: did choosing one of the predefined monitors in game-setup allow X to
start?
Comment 6 Dustin 2002-12-16 14:17:50 UTC
Selecting a pre-defined monitor doesn't help at all.
Comment 7 Daniel Robbins (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-12-16 15:57:15 UTC
Pick the wimpiest pre-defined screen resolution and then if it still doesn't
work, go ahead and grab the /var/log/XFree86.0.log and attach it to this bug.
Comment 8 Daniel Robbins (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-12-22 01:02:23 UTC
OK, the real fix for this bug is to specify fallback screens
like "1024x768", "800x600" and "640x480" so that when DDC isn't there,
Xfree86's default HorizSync and VertRefresh settings don't cause all potential
modes from being disqualified. Will fix this on the next ut2003-demo CD.
Comment 9 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-15 11:31:55 UTC
still the same issue
i've connected my monitor through bnc cause of better quality

still no luck :(
Comment 10 Daniel Robbins (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-09 15:34:10 UTC
This should be fixed on all our latest gamecds....
