This just installs TextMaker SE 2002 Linux Edition Rev. 405 - but you have to get TextMaker yourself (I got it from a Magazine-CD: PC-WELT, german edition). It gets the language settings from the LINGUAS variable (which should be set on every system) and will install either the german "de" or the english "en" version (every other LINUAS setting installs the english version). You may be able to obtain a free copy from http://www.softmaker.com/english/tmldemo_en.htm, but I'm not sure.

Not only that the trial is not just fetchable, you even have to leave your email address. Don't know who needs this treatment...
Oh, I was wrong. You can just go on without entering anything. Still only a trial and the name of the tarball differs, though.

Well, i hope it's the same version. It may be a "trial", but you can load AND save - Word 6.0/95 - Word 97/2000/XP - Ritch Text Format - Pocket Word-Pocket PC - Pocket Word-Handheld PC besides the TextMaker document format, off course. My tarball is called "free linux edition" with the digest MD5 071e4e122fe62929d13c151c876a9eb0 textmakerfree.tgz 6956288 Please check if it's the same.
Also check out PlanMaker (can load and save Microsoft Excel files): bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101582
Okay, I found out that you can only download a trial from the SoftMaker homepage. That's bad! Some magazines published the free edition on their CDs, including PC-WELT and c't (check out http://www.heise.de/software/default.shtml?s=cdd&id=18). If you don't have one of them, then you don't have the free edition. Sorry.
Google search: http://terminatux.dyndns.org/userarea/user/TUX/programme/textmakerfree.tgz But the digest is different (file size differs)...
Regarding the ebuild: 1/ Header is invalid. 2/ Keywords do not follow the policy. 3/ IUSE is commented out, but it's mandatory, even if empty. 4/ Remove redundant comments. http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/handbook/handbook.xml?part=2&chap=3 I get "Connection refused" for the link posted in comment #9, so the main problem is that this cannot be downloaded anywhere (except for the trial). Sorry, marking this WONTFIX.
Closing.
