mp32ogg is a perl script to convert MP3 files to Ogg Vorbis files, retaining ID3 information, bitrate, and optionally renaming the output files, as well as deleting the originals. My experience is that the quality of the ogg that mp32ogg produce is the same as the MP3 that it's using. Let get rid of property MP3 and convert them to ogg. When you download it from the FTP the file isn't executable, therefor I did a fperms-command, after that I renamed it to mp32ogg and moved it to /usr/bin. mp32ogg needs 4 other packages to function, I added them to the rdepend-variable. The original homepage doesn't exist anymore so I added the freshmeat project page to the homepage-variable. (you can see the original homepage on google cache). You might want to consider putting this program on the Ibiblio-mirror because it's very small and it takes kinda long to get it from the ftp (validation isn't very fast). I have attached a tarball which includes an ebuild for mp32ogg, changelog and the program. I hope the ebuild is good and you want to add this to the portage-tree. If more information/work needs te be done please let me know.
