Kde 3.4.2 "freezes" input from time to time. I mean that I can move the mouse and I see the smiley face toy bouncing around the screen and growing hair, but if I try to click a window nothing happenes. Even if I try the touchpad on the laptop, it freezes. I have encountered somthing like this once with X, but then turning RenderAccel off did the trick, so it's off now. Also I am not sure what leads to the freezes, might be pressing buttons right after each othe or heavy work? I am running xorg-x11 6.8.99.15 (I need the latest for mt lx700 keyboard) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.heavy work/too many buttons at once 2.??? 3.Profit! Actual Results: kde refuses to get any input, but I can still se it do work. Expected Results: kde should work as normaly Portage 2.0.51.22-r2 (default-linux/amd64/2005.0, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r99, 2.6.12-gentoo-r7 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.12-gentoo-r7 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.12.0_pre3 dev-lang/python: 2.3.4-r1, 2.4.1-r1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.11 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -mtune=athlon64 -O2 -pipe -fforce-addr -falign-functions=4 -fprefetch-loop-arrays -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -mtune=athlon64 -O2 -pipe -fforce-addr -falign-functions=4 -fprefetch-loop-arrays -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--enable-new-dtags -Wl,--sort-common -s" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 3ds X Xaw3d a52 aac aalib accessibility acl acpi aim allegro alsa amuled ao apache2 arts artswrappersuid athena audiofile avalon avi backward-compatible bash-completion bcmath berkdb berkkdb bidi bitmap-fonts bl bmp browserplugin buttons bzip2 bzlib cairo calendar canna caps cdb cdda cddb cdio cdparanoia cdparanois cdr cegui cg chasen cjk clanJavaScript clanVoice cpdflibcrypt crypt cscope css ctype cups curl curlwrappers custom-cflags db2 dba dbase dbm dbus dbx dedicated devil dga dio directfb directfbdivx4linux djbfft djvu dllloader dlloader dnd doc double-precision dpms dts dv dvb dvd dvdr dvdread dxr3 dynagraph editor edl eds elf emacs emacs-w3 emul-linux-x86 encode epiphany evo examples exif expat f77 fam fame fat fbcon ffmpeg fftw firefox flac flash flatfile foomaticdb fortan fortran fping fpx freetds freetype freewnn ftp fuse gaim gb gcj gd gd-external gdbm geoip gg ggi gif giff gii ginac glitz glut gmail gmailtimestamps gnokii gnomedb gnustep gnutls gphoto2 gpm graphviz guile hal hfs howl httpd iconv icq ieee1394 imagemagick imap imlib inifile innodb ipv6 irc ithreads jabber java javamail javascript jbig jfs jikes jms jmx jpeg jpeg2k junit jython kde lcms ldap leim libcaca libclamav libedit libg++ libgda libsamplerate libvisual libwww live lj logitech-mouse lzo lzw lzw-tiff mad maildir mailwrapper mapeditor matroska matrox mbox mcal mcve md5sum mdb memlimit migemo mikmod mime ming mjpeg mng motif mozcalendar mozdevelop mozillampg3 mozsvg mp3 mpeg mpi mplayer msn mssql mule mysql mysqli mythtv nas ncurses neXt network nfs nls nntp nowin nptl nptlonly ntfs nvidia oav oci8 offensive ofx ogg oggvorbis openal openexr opengl openntpd oracle oss pam parse-clocks pcmcia pcre pda pdflib perl php physfs plotutils png pnp portaudio posix postgres povray ppds python qmail qt quicktime rar rdesktop readlibe readline real reiserfs remote rhino rpm rss rtc ruby samba sblive scanner sdk sdl sendfile server shaper silc slang sms smux sndfile snmp sockets sox speex spell spl sqlite srp ssl stats stream subp subtitles subversion svg symlink synlinkszip sysfs tcltk tcpd tga theora threads tidy tiff tokenizer tools truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb userlocales v4l v4l2 vcd videos vlm vorbis wifi wmf wxgtk1 wxwindows x11vnc xanim xbase xchatdccserver xchattext xface xfs xml xml2 xmlrpc xosd xpm xprint xsl xv xvid xvmc yahoo yaz yv12 zeo zeroconf zlib zvbi userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LINGUAS, MAKEOPTS
This definitely looks like an X problem, but could even be a kernel/bios issue or even hardware problem... it's really difficult to tell. Does the keyboard stop working too? Does it happen in window managers outside kde? What video drivers do you use? Have you tried something different? Is it consistently reproducible?
Everything stops working, even the keyboard, but mouse moves. I don't think it happens outside of the, I might be wrong though. Because the only other WM that I used is twm and that was only for a few minutes at a time to setup my keyboard. The driveres are nvidia (propertiay). THe problem might be with the patch that I used for my keyboard?? It was made by one of you gentoo devs to map keys over keycode 255. When I was using the laptop at work without the usb keyboard attached I couldn't get the bug. Also when I came home in the evening I didn't notice it. I'll let you know if it come on again.
If you're using a special patch from outside the tree and that's causing the crashes we can't support that, regardless of who made it. In your case it might be impossible to confirm that the freeze happens without the patch, but you may be able to find others with the same problem by Googling the problem. I'm going to mark this invalid until there's evidence that it's a Gentoo problem. Please re-open this bug if you come across such evidence :)
