an emerge x11-base/xfree failed because the digests for some .exe file did not match.. What was this .exe file doing in my Gentoo LINUX distro? I find several of those. Concerned, I investigated. They appear to be fonts. doing a 'strings' on them I found them to contain Microsoft EULA's. (Also, I found the reason for the digest failure ; my transparant proxy changes "Microsoft" to "Micro$oft". A little joke). I wish to have a M$-free environment, and a Linux distro, of all the people, install this on my machine... I'm deeply offended. How did they get there? Are they part of the XFree86 code or did you add them? Or did Bill? How do I emerge x11-base/xfree without them?
Sad but true, M$ have the best truetype fonts around. Those that xfree get, is licensed for use if you distribute them as is (meaning in the .exe cab). If you do not want them, do: # USE="-truetype" emerge xfree Reading ebuild usually helps a bit.
