Should gpm be part of the base system?  Although it makes sense for 
workstations all the powerful gentoo servers I am building don't even have a 
mouse.

gpm has had a long history of security issues and thus I usually don't have it
running on any server system and never really use it on workstations.

I don't think its important enough to be part of the base system :)
