as of today, a new version of valgrind has been released - would love to see it in portage soon Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
I assume you are also aware that 3.0 is right around the corner? 2.4.1 does not introduce new features. Are you affected by any of the issues valgrind 2.4.1 fixes?
Yes, I am aware that 3.0 is about to be released within the near future, and I'm also looking foreward to give it a try - but from what I read, the 3.0 release will not only have advantages, but also some minor disadvantages (like being a bit slower). The reasons why I still want to see 2.4.1 in portage? a) 2.4.1 is to be considered the current stable release b) it contains updates to compile properly with gcc 4.x and glibc 2.4 c) it contains updated syscall table to include new syscalls included in Linux 2.6.13 I am aware that neither gcc 4 nor glibc 2.4 are supported by gentoo yet - but for people playing arround with those it would be nice/helpful. I allready looked into the ebuild a bit, and adapting the 2.4.0 ebuild only seems to take minor changes: a) --enable-pie and --enable-tls are needed on configure to include those features b) it needs to be checked if the 2.4.0 pie patch is still needed c) I am not sure, if there is a ppc version of it out yet So if it won't be too much of a burden for you, I'd look foreward to seing 2.4.1 included in portage. Thanks in advance Olaf Freyer
It's in portage.
