Looking at the current wxGTK-2.4.2-r3 ebuild, you can either emerge it with USE="gtk2 unicode", or with USE="-unicode"; but USE="-gtk2 unicode" seems impossible. Try to re-emerge wxGTK and report back whether it fixed the problem, please.
