I just can't emerge gcc4.1, which I'd like to have to to test sources against it and alike; however, this is the (more important) output that that occurs: stage1/xgcc -Bstage1/ -B/usr/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ -c -m64 -march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe -fprofile-use -freorder-blocks-and-partition -DIN_GCC -W -Wall -Wwrite-strings -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -pedantic -Wno-long-long -Wno-variadic-macros -Wold-style-definition -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/gcc-4.1-20050723/gcc -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/gcc-4.1-20050723/gcc/. -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/gcc-4.1-20050723/gcc/../include -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/gcc-4.1-20050723/gcc/../libcpp/include /var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/gcc-4.1-20050723/gcc/attribs.c -o attribs.o {standard input}: Assembler messages: {standard input}:495: Error: can't resolve `.text.unlikely' {.text.unlikely section} - `.LFB96' {.text section} make[2]: *** [attribs.o] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/build/gcc' make[1]: *** [stagefeedback_build] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/build/gcc' make: *** [profiledbootstrap] Error 2 !!! Did you try it with just CFLAGS="-pipe"?
huh? no? but I can give it a try anyway ;) have you anything back in your mind about, or why duo ask?
Its still a beta compiler, there are probably going to be code generation bugs from optimizations still.
Well - UNFORTUNATELY - this happens also when having CFLAGS="-pipe" set :( stage1/xgcc -Bstage1/ -B/usr/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ -c -m64 -pipe -fprofile-use -freorder-blocks-and-partition -DIN_GCC -W -Wall -Wwrite-strings -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -pedantic -Wno-long-long -Wno-variadic-macros -Wold-style-definition -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/gcc-4.1-20050723/gcc -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/gcc-4.1-20050723/gcc/. -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/gcc-4.1-20050723/gcc/../include -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/gcc-4.1-20050723/gcc/../libcpp/include /var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.0_beta20050723/work/gcc-4.1-20050723/gcc/attribs.c -o attribs.o {standard input}: Assembler messages: {standard input}:598: Error: can't resolve `.text.unlikely' {.text.unlikely section} - `.LFB69' {.text section} make[2]: *** [attribs.o] Error 1 Any other ideas? p.s.: who else is able to compile this?
I haven't tried it on AMD64 yet, but regardless we aren't supporting any gcc-4 compiler yet. Please report the bug upstream.
nah, okay, thx anyway; besides, below follows an extract from the gcc-devel list ;-) "Snapshot gcc-4.1-20050730 is now available on
