Hi,
  I've not updated packages for about a month or so, but am still able to read
from the server. Doing a "ssh cvs.gentoo.org" boots me out of the system.

Allow me to log in

"ssh cvs.gentoo.org" should never have let you in ever.
please try a commit with
cvs -tt ci -m 'CVS problem test' -f sys-process/audit/Manifest

and attach the full output.

Invalid because we don't allow ssh logins on cvs.gentoo.org.
