Description Wojciech Potentas 2005-07-25 22:48:25 UTC
Kernel compile fails at make bzImage:
 LD .tmp_vmlinux1
drivers/built-in.o:(.data+0x592d8): undefined reference to `cfb_fillrect'
drivers/built-in.o:(.data+0x592e0): undefined reference to `cfb_copyarea'
drivers/built-in.o:(.data+0x592e8): undefined reference to `cfb_imageblit'
drivers/built-in.o:(.data+0x592f0): undefined reference to `soft_cursor'
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.confiogure the kernel with make menuconfig
2.make clean
3.make bzImage

Actual Results:
the same

Expected Results:
fully compiled kernel image

I deleted old sources (2.6.11) case I didn't expected problems with kernel
compilation. After that errors occured and older sources where dispatched from
portage. I need to record some things to CD to make a place at hard disk, but
I have compiled last kernel bad (with deprecated scsi emulation support), and
can't compile it now to test new features for cd recording.

Please post output of "emerge info" to every bug that you file.

Does setting VESA VGA graphics support to Y or N fix the problem? (note that the
vesafb driver will not work as a module, and vesafb-tng, which would work, is
not available on amd64)
Comment 3 Tommy McDaniel 2005-07-29 00:22:14 UTC
I was having the exact same problem with the exact same kernel on my dual
Opteron system, and setting that to Y fixed it for me. I thank you, kind sir.
