Please be careful with ~ppc. foomatic is keyworded as ~ppc however gimp-print requires foomatic and so you have a situation where a package requires something that is masked. zsh% emerge -pu world These are the packages that I would merge, in order. Calculating world dependencies / emerge: all ebuilds that could satisfy "net-print/foomatic" (from ebuild / media-gfx/gimp-print-4.2.2 merge) have been masked.
well, it's proof i'm still new at this, i suppose. say something compiles and runs for me. when should i put "~ppc" and when should i put "ppc"? i've been marking most everything ~ppc (except some pkgs composed simply of perl scripts), but this seems like the wrong thing to do? i'd be happy to follow a better methodology. please advise.
This is a strange example in case, this requires ppc because something esle now depends on it for proper installation. No worries nall, you did things by the book, but in this case foomatic is fine to promote to stable right away (since's it's now required for other pkgs and there is no stable one yet)
changed to ppc in CVS.
