Description Thomas Schlesinger 2005-07-23 09:05:27 UTC
After updating synaptics from 0.14.2 to 0.14.3, I could not longer do a left
mouse-click by tapping on my touchpad in KDE.

In the KDE logon-manager (kdm), klicking by tapping on the touchpad is
possible, but after I'm logged into my KDE-desktop, it does not longer work.

When I create a new user and do my first login in KDE, I can click by tapping
in the appearing configuration dialog where you select country and language.
But if the desktop is "ready for use", it doesn't go anymore.

I'm not able to do the setting in the KDE control center/attached
devices/touchpad. When I do the settings here for one finger, it isn't saved
in $HOME/.kde/share/config/ksynapticsrc. Settings for "two fingers" or "left
bottom", for example, are saved correctly in the file.

I've downgraded to 0.14.2, and everything worked again like it should.

BTW: this is my synaptics config in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "SynapticsMouse0"
    Driver "synaptics"
    Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
    Option "MaxSpeed" "0.12"
    Option "MinSpeed" "0.06"
    Option "BottomEdge" "4200"
    Option "SHMConfig" "on"
    Option "LeftEdge" "1700"
    Option "FingerLow" "25"
    Option "MaxTapTime" "180"
    Option "EmulateMidButtonTime" "75"
    Option "MaxTapMove" "220"
    Option "FingerHigh" "30"
    Option "VertScrollDelta" "100"
    Option "TopEdge" "1700"
    Option "RightEdge" "5300"
    Option "AccelFactor" "0.0010"
EndSection

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge synaptics

Actual Results:
click-by-tapping the touchpad doesn't work

Expected Results:
click-by-tapping the touchpad should work like before

Please don't assign bugs, if you don't know to whom.
Comment 2 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-25 19:13:04 UTC
I just performed this upgrade without issue. My xorg.conf:

Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier "Mouse0"
	Driver "synaptics"
	Option "Protocol" "auto"
	Option "Device" "/dev/input/event1"
EndSection

I can only suggest commenting out some of the options you have...I've had issues
with options changing from one version to the next and causing settings to
become invalid.

Any reason you're not using the event interface?
Comment 3 Thomas Schlesinger 2005-07-27 08:13:03 UTC
I've changed the section, as you advised, and now the problem has gone. Thank
you!
Comment 4 Carsten Lohrke (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-27 08:21:31 UTC
incorrect config is a local issue
Comment 5 Carsten Lohrke (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-27 08:21:56 UTC
not a valid bug
