Description Robert 2005-06-09 16:27:36 UTC
I just updated from baselayout 1.9.4-r6 to 1.11.12-r4 (which is now marked
stable). In the new /etc/profile file /usr/bin takes precedence over /bin. (The
same for sbin.)
I have tar and star installed. star comes with a symlink /usr/bin/tar (to
itself). So whenever I want to use tar now star is called instead (which has
different command line options).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. update to baselayout 1.11.12-r4
2. install star (and tar)
3. call tar the "usual" way (e.g. tar -cxf foo.tgz bar/ )

Actual Results:
call the wrong programs
(in this case: get an error message about wrong usage of (s)tar; took quite a
while to find the cause ;)

Expected Results:
Maybe the following order would be better?:
/usr/local/bin:/bin/:/usr/bin
And the same for sbin.
Or is this really the way it is supposed to work? (Change the star ebuild instaed?)
