Also see Bug 86352 for explanation.

Comment 2 Martin Mokrejš 2005-05-19 11:33:23 UTC
I still have the problem even after upgrade to coreutils-5.2.1-r6.
Comment 3 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-19 11:50:52 UTC
Uhm, OK, but then Bug 87429 should be probably reopened, not this one. Just to
be sure, what do you get when you run

echo foo:bar | cut -d: -f1

Comment 4 Martin Mokrejš 2005-05-19 11:56:07 UTC
$ echo foo:bar | cut -d: -f1

Hmm, I
Comment 6 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-19 12:00:07 UTC
Hmm, I´ll reopen the original bug then so that it can be resolved properly.

Comment 7 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-19 13:18:59 UTC
I see no evidence yet that it is one and the same problem, bug #86352 seems to
be correctly identified & resolved.
Comment 8 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2005-05-24 17:07:48 UTC
do you use nscd ?
Comment 9 Martin Mokrejš 2005-05-31 17:09:43 UTC
Yes, I use nscd. I have at the moment fully up-to-date ~x86 system, so I retried
to emerge this package (while nscd running):

>>> Merging sys-apps/dbus-0.23.4 to /
 * Adding group 'messagebus' to your system ...
 *  - Groupid: next available
/usr/portage/eclass/eutils.eclass: line 638: 18047 Broken pipe
groupadd ${opts} ${egroup}

!!! ERROR: sys-apps/dbus-0.23.4 failed.
!!! Function enewgroup, Line 716, Exitcode 141

When nscd is shutdown, I get:

>>> Merging sys-apps/dbus-0.23.4 to /
 * Adding group 'messagebus' to your system ...
 *  - Groupid: next available
/usr/portage/eclass/eutils.eclass: line 638:  4838 Broken pipe
groupadd ${opts} ${egroup}

!!! ERROR: sys-apps/dbus-0.23.4 failed.
!!! Function enewgroup, Line 716, Exitcode 141
Comment 10 Martin Mokrejš 2005-06-03 13:17:35 UTC
>>> Completed installing dbus-0.23.4 into /var/tmp/portage/dbus-0.23.4/image/

I have added the gropup messagebus to /etc/group file manually (GID 112), and
then I got this:

>>> Merging sys-apps/dbus-0.23.4 to /
 * Adding user 'messagebus' to your system ...
 *  - Userid: 102
 *  - Shell: /bin/false
 *  - Home: /dev/null
 *  - Groups: messagebus
/usr/portage/eclass/eutils.eclass: line 451: 21508 Broken pipe
useradd ${opts} ${euser} -c "added by portage for ${PN}"

!!! ERROR: sys-apps/dbus-0.23.4 failed.
!!! Function enewuser, Line 611, Exitcode 141

Is I see you add ID 102, so I created also the user, switched group id to 102
too (for consistency) and then retried to emerge dbus, and it finally got
through. ;)
