getting cought up on which version of autoconf to install. any suggestions would be good, i've been trying to get sub-1.1.4 to install

OS X Tiger already has autoconf 2.59, so we don't need to install it there. This should suffice:
echo "sys-devel/autoconf-2.59" >> /etc/portage/profile/package.provided

If you're running Panther, you can try to install autoconf with:
FEATURES="-collision-protect" emerge =sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r6

I'd really like to see subversion up and running on the ppc-macos too, but last time I tried installing
subversion 1.1.4, it failed. If you're looking for an alternative to Fink until the Gentoo version is
working, you could use either of these:

http://metissian.com/projects/macosx/subversion/
