I just emerged gnome-2.10-pre0. starting gnome-terminal I get this as my
prompt:
"bash-2.05b$"

so I have to do manually "source /etc/profile" to get my "user@computer user $"
back.

The bash is most likely not executed as a login-shell

In menu, selec "Edit" -> "Current Profile", in the tab "Title and command" check "Run command as a login shell", restart gnome-terminal.
