Are you sure you don't have hardware issues. I have a hard time believing that 3.3.4 and 3.4.3.20050110 are having these ICE that I can't reproduce...

Comment 5 Richard Benjamin Voigt 2005-01-26 20:57:33 UTC
I have it too, emerging new gcc, also kdelibs. Trying with vanilla gcc, then will try with blank CFLAGS since -march=athlon-xp is common to all reports.

Furthermore, I recently rebuilt my toolchain with USE="nptl nptlonly". That worked fine (gcc built itself about 6 times), and it's these subsequent builds that are dying.

gcc -c -DEFAULT_PIE_SSP -O -DIN_GCC -W -Wall -Wwrite-strings -Wstrict-proto

gcc-config to 3.4.3 vanilla didn't help.

I don't see my CFLAGS on the command line, so I guess they aren't being used.

Restarted colinux with 512MB RAM instead of 192MB, trying again.
Comment 8 Richard Benjamin Voigt 2005-01-26 21:47:23 UTC
Same failure with 512MB RAM.

Using gcc-3.3.3, it got further. This one was built before I enabled nptl and nptlonly.

Comment 9 Harvey Muller 2005-02-15 21:25:05 UTC
Received the same error today. Will attach preprocessed source tomorrow morning. Was building fresh installation from stage3 tarball. CFLAGS set were -march=pentium3 -O2 -pipe. Will attach USE flags tomorrow morning. nptl, ithreads, and pthreads were in use. Rebuilt toolchain using gcc-3.4.3, and had run emerge -e system. Compilation proceeded normally until libstdc++v3-3.3.4 failed midstream. This is only a preliminary report. Will attempt to emerge libstdc with minimal USE flags in the morning.

Precompiled source code

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install stage3 tarball without network, using LVM2.
2. Emerge and install gcc 3.4.3 toolchain.
3. Run 'emerge -e system.

All files in /var/tmp/portage/libstd*/temp are attached. A screen capture of
the initial error screen included. I don't know how to convert console screen
text to a file after the fact.

Changing the CFLAGS variable -O2 to -O0 allows compilation without the error.

  export "-O0 -march=pentium3 -pipe
  emerge -e system

Changing USE flags has no effect.

I seem to remember having this error on my home machine and switching to ~x86 to resolve it .

Ill give it a shot on my 350 for testing purposes but neither of theses machines can be doployed ~x86, already started to reinstall the Poweredge strictly on x86 no arched packages.
