Description Borja Pacheco 2004-12-14 10:00:18 UTC
When Gentoo executes /sbin/depscan.sh (booting time, emerging or whatever) it's produced an error because one file is missing.

If tryed to follow up the mistake and I watch that the problem is inside the following line:
bash "${svcdir}/depcache" | \
\
/bin/gawk \
        -f /lib/rcscripts/awk/functions.awk \
        -f /lib/rcscripts/awk/gendepends.awk || \
        retval=1

The error is the following one...

# /sbin/depscan.sh  * Caching service dependencies...
: command not foundcache: line 3:
: command not foundcache: line 5:
: command not foundcache: line 10:
: command not foundcache: line 16:
: command not foundcache: line 20:
: command not foundcache: line 29:
: command not foundcache: line 30:

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Execute /sbin/depscan.sh
2. The error is repeated
3.

Actual Results:

check your config files, these errors are almost always because there's a typo in a config file

i'd review:
/etc/conf.d/*
/etc/init.d/*
/etc/rc.conf
Comment 2 Borja Pacheco 2004-12-14 10:06:51 UTC
Note:
-> This is a new instalation, based on the 2004.3 profile.
-> Since the first boot, it started to fail...

Regards
Comment 3 Borja Pacheco 2004-12-14 10:36:15 UTC
I've removed everything inside my /etc/conf.d/ and rebuild baselayout and everything is ok right now!

Thanks a lot.

In anycase, I think that we should isolate side-effects that bad configuration files could have on the rest of the system...
Comment 4 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2004-12-14 11:40:17 UTC
there's already a bug open about that ... we've been trying to come up with a decent (read: not a hack) solution, but it's not a high priority :x
