Description nanex 2004-09-13 13:54:18 UTC
When trying to install the speedtouch USB using the 2004.2 version of gentoo the n_hdlc module is missing so i could not complete the installation of my gentoo box. Even if the n_hdlc is compiled in I think n_hdlc must there as a module.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Do a modprobe n_hdlc
2.And see the error that this module is missing
3.

Actual Results:
The bugs were still here

Expected Results:
when I do a modprobe n_hdlc no output lines should be displayed

I have always used this modem to install gentoo , but the version i was using
was the 1.4 wich includes n_hdlc as a module

Would you be willing to help us in testing for 2004.3? None of us has a Speedtouch modem to test with.

Yes no problem it will be a great pleasure to test the third version of gentoo 2004

I also have such a modem and can do some testing. I am currently switching from a separtedly compiled installation of the speedtouch-drivers to the ones that come with Gentoo.

I have n_hdlc available as part of my kernel-modules at:
/lib/modules/2.6.8.1-ck9/kernel/drivers/char/n_hdlc.ko

Maybe you are missing some kernel-configuration. I have the following enabled in my configuration of the kernel (2.6.8.1-ck7), but I am not sure if all of this is required. You should try at least CONFIG_N_HDLC=m, which can be found under "Device Drivers - Character Devices - HDLC line discipline support"

#
# Device Drivers - Networking Support - Wan interfaces
#
CONFIG_WAN=y
# CONFIG_DSCC4 is not set
# CONFIG_LANMEDIA is not set
CONFIG_SYNCLINK_SYNCPPP=m
CONFIG_HDLC=m
CONFIG_HDLC_RAW=y
CONFIG_HDLC_RAW_ETH=y
# CONFIG_HDLC_CISCO is not set
# CONFIG_HDLC_FR is not set
CONFIG_HDLC_PPP=y

#
# Device Drivers - Character devices
#
CONFIG_N_HDLC=m

The config is set on x86, but not on ppc for 2005.0. Don't know about other arches. I keep this bug open, but as a remind.

Remember that 2005.0 is not released yet, so we cannot resolve these bugs... ;]
Comment 6 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-28 07:48:22 UTC
This should be fixed in 2005.0
