1. Merge the ~x86 dev-util/kdevelop-3.1_beta2
Comment 1 Carsten Lohrke (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-08-11 03:48:48 UTC
Beta2 is not even part of the tree anymore.
Comment 2 Will Buckner 2004-08-11 17:27:14 UTC
Still occurs on RC2 (which IS in the tree)... Please reopen.

Comment 3 Siuchung Cheung (Clement) 2004-08-13 02:35:43 UTC
Exactly the same problem here, except that I only get that for rc2. beta2 works for me. The weird thing is that when I cd into that directory, those files (ChangLog, INSTALL, etc.) actually exist! Why is it not found???
Comment 4 Siuchung Cheung (Clement) 2004-08-13 03:30:12 UTC
Found the reason.

This has nothing to do with the difference between beta2 and rc2. This is actually caused by a star upgrade.

- star-1.5_alpha* introduced a new feature that provides a GNU compatible tar called gnutar.
- The config script checks for gnutar (not sure if it's trying to look for star or some other tar that happens to be called gnutar) and tries to use it if it exists.
- Unfortunately, the current implementation in star has a bug that -C only affects some, not all of the files on the list. That's why it says file not found for some files, especially those near the end of the list.
- If you use star with the star syntax, the -C works perfectly. Apparently this is a bug in the gnutar that probably acts as a wrapper around star. Something went wrong in the command translation process...

Workaround:
1. unmerge star. The config script will then use the standard tar instead.
2. emerge =star-1.4.3. This version does not has the gnutar. So the config script will still use the standard tar.

FYI:
I tried the latest star-1.5_alpha44 (not yet in portage) and the problem is still there. Perhaps we should upstream this bug to the author of star.

Thanks Clement.

star is missing metadata.xml/herd/maintainer, so I'm not able to forward

Comment 7 Boyd Waters 2004-10-04 11:56:45 UTC
I think that this should be a bug against kdevelop, as the command-line option syntax

"footar -cf filename"

is NOT per the POSIX spec for tar. Should be "footar cf filename" (without the dashes) or (better, safer) "footar -c -f filename"

Portage ebuild.sh also has this error. I fixed ebuild.sh to be POSIX-tar compliant and use star-1.5alpha49 just fine.
