Description Daniel Savard 2016-04-17 15:12:13 UTC
Despite the exact same behavior as depicted in bug 568452 this bug report is different since bug 568452 as been mark as resolved and the solution is irrelevant to the current bug report.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have python 2.7 AND python 3.4 installed
2. Have dev-python/sip installed
3. Try to install PyQt5
Actual Results:
The ebuild will fail at compile time with the message:

fatal error: sip.h: No such file or directory

Expected Results:
Should complete without any error message.

After checking the temporary ebuild filetree I discovered the PyQt5 for python2.7 is building just fine. That is version for python3.4 which is at problem.

I then investigated further and found the include path for the Python 3.4 build is /usr/include/python3.4m while for Python 2.7 it is /usr/include/python2.7. Actually, the sip.h file is in /usr/include/python3.4 or /usr/include/python2.7 whichever version is built.

So, it is clearly a bug in the configuration and build scripts while dealing with version other than 2.7.

Since the bug 568452 addresses only version 2.7 and is simply due to dev-python/sip missing this one is different and needs to be fixed as such.

It appears both /usr/include/python3.4 and /usr/include/python3.4m are required in some cases.

rebuild dev-python/sip

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 568452 ***
Comment 4 Daniel Savard 2016-04-19 02:23:38 UTC
So, it is a duplicate but not really resolved because they didn't changed the requirements for the PyQt5 ebuild to make it rebuild properly sip or upgrade it to a working version.

And the the duplicate is marked as resolved as well as the current bug report. So, nobody will really fix the problem at the end. Is there anyone that understand this should build without any problem and THEN and only THEN you can consider it fixed?

I've reopened the duplicate to see if the python team is willing to provide a proper/more robust solution, but I suggest you change the tone of your comments. Thanks.
