Description Sergey S. Starikoff 2015-12-13 12:42:59 UTC
For a time ago I was happy to migrate on sys-fs/eudev.

On last (2015-12-11 portage sync) update I find newly stabilized =sys-fs/eudev-3.1.5 incompatible with my desktop installation.

The error is:
# emerge -uDN world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

sys-fs/eudev:0

(sys-fs/eudev-3.1.5:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
(no parents that aren't satisfied by other packages in this slot)

  (sys-fs/eudev-3.1.2:0/0::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    >=sys-fs/eudev-1.5.3-r1:0/0[abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?,abi_mips_n32(-)?,abi_mips_n64(-)?,abi_mips_o32(-)?,abi_ppc_32(-)?,abi_ppc_64(-)?,abi_s390_32(-)?,abi_s390_64(-)?,gudev(-),introspection(-)?,static-libs?] required by (virtual/libgudev-215-r3:0/0::gentoo, installed)

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

Further analyze showed the following:
Currently installed version:
# equery u =sys-fs/eudev-3.1.2
…
 * Found these USE flags for sys-fs/eudev-3.1.2:
 U I
 - - abi_x86_32 : 32-bit (x86) libraries
 - - doc : Add extra documentation (API, Javadoc, etc). It is recommended to enable per package instead
                     of globally
+ + gudev : enable libudev gobject interface
+ + hwdb : read vendor/device string database and add it to udev database
 - - introspection : Use dev-libs/gobject-introspection for introspection
+ + kmod : enable module loading through libkmod
 - - static-libs : Build static versions of dynamic libraries as well
 - - test : Workaround to pull in packages needed to run with FEATURES=test. Portage-2.1.2 handles this
internally, so don't set it in make.conf/package.use anymore

Latest stable:
# equery u =sys-fs/eudev-3.1.5
…
 * Found these USE flags for sys-fs/eudev-3.1.5:
 U I
 - - abi_x86_32 : 32-bit (x86) libraries
+ - hwdb : read vendor/device string database and add it to udev database
 - - introspection : Use dev-libs/gobject-introspection for introspection
+ - kmod : enable module loading through libkmod
 - - rule-generator : install legacy rule generator rules and support scripts - note that the functionality within
was dropped from sys-fs/udev as it is not stable in all cases; use at your own risk
 - - static-libs : Build static versions of dynamic libraries as well
 - - test : Workaround to pull in packages needed to run with FEATURES=test. Portage-2.1.2 handles this
internally, so don't set it in make.conf/package.use anymore

In latest stable was removed gudev USE flag, so it can't satisfy dependency on sys-fs/eudev[gudev].

This will be fixed once virtual/libgudev-230 is stable.
Comment 2 Sergey S. Starikoff 2015-12-16 07:57:30 UTC
Update with monday's (2015-12-14) portage snapshot showed thi bug fixed.
