On Debian and Arch it looks like this problem doesn't appear but, for some reason, when I compile spek with wxGTK:3.0 instead of 2.8 I see an error window at start showing me: /var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/wxGTK-3.0.2.0-r1/work/wxPython-src-3.0.2.0/src/common/iconbndl.cpp(293): assert "icon.IsOk()" failed in AddIcon(): invalid icon /var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/wxGTK-3.0.2.0-r1/work/wxPython-src-3.0.2.0/src/common/iconbndl.cpp(293): assert "icon.IsOk()" failed in AddIcon(): invalid icon Even with that, at the end it looks to get opened and work... but I am unsure about what causes that error in our case. I have compared their wxGTK packages and they seem to not apply any patch or change there to fix any error related with this :/
Confirmed this is fixed by the debug patch on the tracker.
