Description Simon Detheridge 2004-07-07 06:59:56 UTC
libwww does not compile against mysql-4.1.3. (USE=mysql) Possibly, it does not compile against any other mysql 4.1 version either. This is because they seem to have removed two obsolete functions from libmysqlclient, which libwww still uses.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge mysql 4.1.3
2.emerge libwww

Actual Results:
the emerge fails (I don't have the compiler errors to hand)

Expected Results:
the emerge should succeed

Patch for libwww-5.4.0 that fixes the problem

This patch updates the calls to the obsolete mysql functions, and replaces them
with up-to-date versions.

Ebuild to apply the patch

Trivial modification to the ebuild, to apply the above patch.
Comment 3 Mamoru KOMACHI (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-10 02:51:27 UTC
I cannot find mysql-4.1.3 in Portage. Where does it come from?
Also, I don't know the function call changes in recent MySQL,
so I reassign it to mysql-bugs.
Comment 4 Robin Johnson archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2004-07-10 03:11:07 UTC
simon: for your patch there, please make sure that libwww compiles and works with your patch applied and mysql-4.0 or 3.23 being used. this may require some fancy footwork with macros or #if trees.
please also use snprintf instead of sprintf and make your code modifications secure.

text-markup: the game-plan for mysql-4.1 is not for another few weeks at least before it's available hardmasked even, too much work going on with it.
Comment 5 Robin Johnson archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2005-05-17 02:28:31 UTC
Thanks for Francesco a better patch for libwww has been created, and is now in
as libwww-5.4.0-r3.
Comment 6 opello@opello.org 2006-06-10 13:46:29 UTC
This problem persists with libwww-5.0.4-r4 building against mysql-4.0.27.
I adjusted the patch to check for version >=40027 but that was just for my use.

I'm not sure what version(s) of the 4.0 series still have the deprecated functions, or which versions (if any) of the 4.1 series (the check now is >=40103, maybe there wasn't a 4.1.2 or lower...)

Anyway, it should probably researched a bit more, I wasn't sure where to take it though.
Comment 7 Francesco R. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-24 10:21:54 UTC
it may well be that mysql has backported that changes.
Comment 8 Francesco R. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-25 07:09:53 UTC
libwww-5.4.0-r6 in cvs
Comment 9 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-22 16:02:23 UTC
Just did hit this after openssl upgrade:

<snip>
../../Library/src/.libs/libwwwsql.so: undefined reference to `mysql_connect'
../../Library/src/.libs/libwwwsql.so: undefined reference to `mysql_create_db'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
</snip>

5.4.0-r6 needs to be stabilized, -r4 still fails.
Comment 10 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-22 16:09:03 UTC
Arches, please stabilize 5.4.0-r6
Comment 11 Christoph Mende (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-23 02:00:20 UTC
- emerges fine on amd64
- passes collision-test
- passes multilib-strict
- works
