Hi, On my stable system with VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia", I have nvidia-drivers-340.93 installed. On this system, I have also xfce-extra/xfce4-sensors-plugin installed, which RDEPENDs on nvidia-settings because of required libXNVCtrl.a (see bug #414679). Today nvidia-settings-340.58 was stabilized, but it RDPENDs on ~x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.93. So here is my emerge output : > # emerge -pvuDN world > [ebuild UD ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.93::gentoo [355.11::gentoo] USE="X acpi multilib tools -pax_kernel -uvm (-gtk2%*) (-gtk3%*)" 68 178 KiB > [ebuild U ] media-video/nvidia-settings-340.58::gentoo [331.20::gentoo] USE="-examples" 1 514 KiB I can't downgrade drivers, because <nvidia-drivers-352.30 contains a major bug for me (see ¹). What should I do ? Why nvidia-settings depends on ~340 drivers ? ¹. https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/807287/ Thanks. Reproducible: Always
> On my stable system with VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia", I have nvidia-drivers-340.93 installed. Correction : ------------ On my stable system with VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia", I have nvidia-drivers-355.11 installed.
AFAICT (maintainers can correct me), nvidia-settings is considered deprecated, you are supposed to use nvidia-drivers with USE=tools instead. However, this transition was not explained to users and badly handled; for existing users of nvidia-settings, portage will now try to downgrade nvidia-drivers :/ Probably there needs to be a news item and/or a dummy nvidia-settings revbump that doesn't install anything but only pulls in nvidia-drivers[tools].

But my time for it is currently very limited. The dependency has been fixed for 355.
