Looks like a texinfo error to me (hard to discern because of -j4). Installed texinfo version is 4.13-r2.

Yes. Seems like the upstream change to support texinfo 5 is not backwards compatible with texinfo 4.13. I failed to check that sorry.

You can fix it by setting a dependency on >sys-apps/texinfo-5, then.

A compile time dependency on >=sys-apps/texinfo-5 is committed.
