Many older applications require lib-compat in order to run properly. The x86 part of lib-compat should be included in app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs as part of the 32bit libraries. This is necessary to run programs such as Waterloo Maple. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: I downloaded the lib-compat tarball ran the following: cp lib-compat-1.3/x86/libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 /emul/linux/x86/usr/lib This let me continue with the Maple9 installation. # emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r8 (default-amd64-2004.0, gcc-3.3.3, glibc-2.3.4.20040605-r0, 2.6.5-gentoo) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.5-gentoo x86_64 4 Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp:///ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ http://128.213.5.34/gentoo/ http://gentoo.mirrored.ca/ http://adelie.polymtl.ca/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa amd64 apm arts avi berkdb cdr crypt cups dvd encode esd foomaticdb gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk gtk2 imlib jpeg libg++ libwww mikmod motif mozilla mpeg multilib ncurses nls nogcj oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png ppds python quicktime readline sdl slang spell ssl tcpd truetype usb xml2 xmms xv zlib"
Scheduled for emul-linux-x86-*libs-1.2 !
emerge emul-linux-x86-compat (masked until all the new emul libs are done, but safe to use)
