The Debian menu system automatically generates menus of installed programs for window managers and other menu programs. For more info on how it works, the documentation can be found at: http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/menu.html/index.html I have ported the system so that it builds and runs on Gentoo. I have done very little testing, so please try to break it and fix the problems or tell me about them. There is a lot of work that still needs to be done on the package. I have not yet updated any of the documentation, so it all describes debian/apt/dpkg rather than gentoo/portage/ebuilds. The code was originaly designed to use dpkg, it only needed one line patched to be able to run without it, but there is still tons of code that was written for dpkg that should be removed/rewritten. I am submitting this now in order to get feedback, and to allow anyone to help out with the project.

Isn't this more or less the same as x11-misc/genmenu? //ZhEN
not really, John -- the purpose here is to create a set of unified menus for all window managers and desktop environments in use in Gentoo. mkeadle, foser and a few other people with me have an idea for an xml based implementation, to be more fully explored post 1.4
This can be marked obsolete, see bug 18638
