        Did not meet >=media-libs/grilo-0.2.12:0.2[playlist], use existing if possible, installing to / from media-video/totem-3.16.1:0::gnome

note.

grilo-2.12 builds with just a rename of the grilo-2.11 ebuild and adjustment of the version in the ebuild header

This allows totem-3.16 to build

who is responsible for updating grilo in the tree? That is only thing holding totem.

The nvidia-drivers crash issue can be worked around by creating /etc/env.d/00totem

with CLUTTER_BACKEND=x11

Ebuilds were added to the overlay. It depends on a newer gom as it fixes segmentation faults that would occur in packages using grilo-plugins such as totem, rhythmbox or gnome-music.

Totem now builds and runs. I created 00totem in /etc/env.d with CLUTTER_BACKEND=x11 to work around the nvidia-drivers bug shown in this upstream link

If upstream doesn't fix this issue before you want to release you should create files in /etc/env.d to allow totem to run for nvidia-drivers users.
