Description James Dominy 2013-10-31 19:43:53 UTC
I have a fresh amd64 install. I just installed mariadb and ran emerge --config. While it succeeded, it issued an error line warning about duplicate keys when trying to load zoneinfo tables. See below for the whole output. Also, I'm guessing the zoneinfo tables aren't loaded correctly

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge dev-db/mariadb
2. emerge --config dev-db/mariadb
Actual Results:
$ emerge --config dev-db/mariadb

Expected Results:
I expect the zoneinfo tables to load without error (and without duplicate entries)

I did a bit of digging and found that, indeed there is a recursive link /usr/share/zoneinfo

$ls -ld /usr/share/zoneinfo/posix
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 1 Oct 31 21:17 /usr/share/zoneinfo/posix -> .

I removed everything from inside /var/lib/mysql, and removed /usr/share/zoneinfo/posix, and re-ran the emerge --config. This time it worked.

Either the ebuild should remove the link temporarily during config, or mariadb needs to be somehow instructed to exclude/ignore that symlink.

I reported this upstream.

Comment 3 Brian Evans (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-11-21 20:59:11 UTC
This is fixed in MariaDB 5.5.34 which should be in the overlay soon
Comment 4 Thomas Deutschmann (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2014-01-20 00:53:07 UTC
That's an annoying situation, currently: The available mariadb versions aren't usable: You will first run into bug 453480 which you can fix when you update the eclass by hand. But then you will run into this problem :>

To fix this problem, you need a mariadb ebuild, which is only available on the overlay. :(

So you realize you should use the mysql overlay you didn't know before (or thought that this is just for development).

I don't know your plans, but because dev-db/mariadb in the main portage tree isn't usable for some weeks now, maybe it is better to remove it. So people like me who want to get started with mariadb would know that they must use the overlay...

Or better: Make the working versions from the overlay available in the main portage tree :)

Thanks.

I'm working on some bugs and will sync the ebuilds / eclasses in the tree to the ones in the overlay when I'm done.
So if you don't want to use the overlay, wait a bit as I plan to fix the "tree" soon.
