As explained in bug 425156, gksu is dead and should be replaced by direct polkit usage when needed (as was done with gparted). Does this package really need to gain root privileges? (Arch looks to not do that, but reading ebuild looks like provided desktop file wants to do that) Thanks
Yes the upstream desktop file uses gksu. We can drop that from the desktop file but the user will be surprised that he will not be able to use the desktop file to launch the app anymore.
I can try to port it to pkexec usage then (as done in gparted, for example)
Is this tool from 2008 still needed? Is this driver special or something that cannot be configured in the regular way of all the other devices and neither with tools like gnome-extra/gpointing-device-settings?
Created attachment 451334 [details] Suggested ebuild Hi! I would like to request that configure-trackpoint not be removed because of the gksu dependency, and rather that the ebuild be amended, because configure-trackpoint can be used with kdesu instead. I have attached an updated ebuild I made. Thank you for considering this! —Elliot (aka kyan in IRC)

Why do you still need this? (that needs to be run as root :/)
