Description Nikos Chantziaras 2013-08-15 08:43:52 UTC
A recent world update resulted in libbfd-2.23.1.so being deleted (I think it was a binutils update.) preserved-rebuild is enabled, so it looks like this shouldn't have happened, since running:

  revdep-rebuild -i

reports:

  broken /usr/lib64/cairo/libcairo-trace.so.0.0.0 (requires libbfd-2.23.1.so)

So it probably went like this:

1) You updated your world target.
2) No preserved libs were reported.
3) You switched to a newer binutils through binutils-config.
4) Now the older libbfd is missing.

Please post your `emerge --info' output in a comment.

Nope. I didn't even know about binutils-config until I've read your comment. I suppose the binutils ebuild could call binutils-config on its own?

OK, so you don't have USE=multitarget and step 3 was automatically skipped.

Yeah, it's because of the way that binutils-config works, as discussed in bug #459038.
