when trying
$ emerge [--pretend] app-office/openoffice

These are the packages I would merge, in order.

Calculating Dependancies !!! Couldn't find match for app-office/openoffice;
aborting.

The openoffice ebuild is "masked" out (aka blocked by developers) because it
doesn't work.  See /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask for the packages "masked" out.
