Summary says it all... Based on the reports in the forums, this affects both KVM and Xen: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-928732-start-0.html (and both dom0 and domU under Xen). The package builds fine on bare metal (with the exact same kernel and userland). Trying to boot with the newly built system under Xen (as dom0) results in panic, as described in bug#402753. Apparently, this _may_ be related to AVX (introduced with Sandy Bridge) and the toolchain not being aware when/how to use it. (See the URL to a lengthy thread on redhat's bugzilla regarding this issue in my comments to the above bug.) Reproducible: Always
Unfortunately, I cannot post the relevant 'emerge --info', as I've proceeded with the build on bare metal; so, now I do have glibc-2.15-r2 (used to be 2.14.1-r3). I've also tried re-building with new CFLAGS 'march=core2 mtune=native' to try forcing a "sane" instruction set, but that didn't work either.
