If you want to use liboauth[nss] you need to have curl[nss] as well. This is an unfortunate result of curl trying to support too many options when they are not compatible one with the other. Please refer to http://blog.flameeyes.eu/2010/07/too-many-alternatives-are-not-always-so-good for more details about the curl alternatives issues.
I agree with the sentiment. I've happily been running curl with +nss and +ssl for quite some time. The issue is the USE flags changed into some sort of expanded version. in 7.25.0: IUSE="ares gnutls idn ipv6 kerberos ldap nss ssh ssl static-libs test threads" in 7.25.0-r1: IUSE="ares idn ipv6 kerberos ldap ssh ssl static-libs test threads" IUSE="${IUSE} curl_ssl_axtls curl_ssl_cyassl curl_ssl_gnutls curl_ssl_nss +curl_ssl_openssl curl_ssl_polarssl"
Gha, sorry I didn't check for something as stupid as that, you're right. *Mumbles something about needing to explain someone the concept of reverse deps*
Any news? I have here some strange results, which I do not understand: At the first system (leopard) the nss USE flag is set in /etc/portage/packages.use for curl, but curl-7.25.0-r1 is emerged without the nss USE flag: root@leopard:/root(1)# grep "^[^#].*curl" /etc/portage/package.use net-misc/curl nss -gnutls root@leopard:/root(2)# emerge -pvD curl These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild R ] net-misc/curl-7.25.0-r1 USE="ipv6 ldap ssl threads -ares -idn -kerberos -ssh -static-libs -test" CURL_SSL="openssl -axtls -cyassl -gnutls -nss -polarssl" 0 kB Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB At the second system (lynx) the nss USE flag is set in /etc/portage/packages.use for curl and only curl-7.25.0 is emerged (with the nss flag): root@lynx:/root(5)# grep "^[^#].*curl" /etc/portage/package.use >=net-misc/curl-7.22.0 -gnutls nss root@lynx:/root(6)# emerge -pvD curl These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild R ] net-misc/curl-7.25.0 USE="ipv6 kerberos ldap nss ssl threads -ares -gnutls -idn -ssh -static-libs -test" 0 kB Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB WARNING: One or more updates have been skipped due to a dependency conflict: net-misc/curl:0 (net-misc/curl-7.25.0-r1::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) conflicts with net-misc/curl[ssl,nss,-gnutls] required by (net-libs/liboauth-0.9.6::gentoo, installed) Maybe an explanation for leopard is, that the USE flag in /etc/portage/packages.use was set after curl-7.25.0-r1 was emerged. But if this is true, why 'emerge -uvDN curl' does not want to reemerge curl: root@leopard:/root(13)# emerge -pvuDN curl These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! Total: 0 packages, Size of downloads: 0 kB And 'emerge -uvDN gnome' complains also at leopard about the dependency conflict: root@leopard:/root(12)# emerge -pvuDN gnome These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild R ] dev-libs/libical-0.48 USE="examples*" 0 kB ... Regards
Any news?
Created attachment 311127 [details, diff] diff to current ebuild This is both backward and forward compatible from my testing. Thanks!
I used the patch of comment 6, reemerged liboauth and could then also emerge urlgrabber, smolt and virt-manager.

Sorry for the _very_ long delay. Fixed now.
