This ought to have been solved in a timely manner in stabilisation bug #394695, which was superseded by stabilisation bug #400559. If you want to nudge progress along, test the newer sys-apps/portage version denoted in bug #400559 and report in a comment there that PPC64 is good to go stable, if so. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 394695 ***
