Created attachment 291457 [details] kernel .config from 3.1.0 (as created by make oldconfig from 3.0.7)
Hrm I can't test on 3.1.0 yet myself, as I don't know how nvidia works on it.
I've got the same problem on 3.1.0 with 03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection on Lenovo T400. On 3.0.6 the wifi is working just fine.
Patch in mainline [1] fixed it for me [1] http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commit;h=8a39ef8ba0fa0410d71db8e981e887fe4fdeca88
Thanks for the pointer to the patch, this will be in the next release of gentoo-sources-3.1.0-r3
I can confirm this is fixed.
Patch is available in >= gentoo-sources-3.1.5
