It's an intentional dependency change, from bug 384663. Until something like bug 283587 is implemented (so that eselect pager will pull in your selected pager), you'll have to add less to world if you want to keep it: emerge --noreplace sys-apps/less
I check the portage changelog on upgrade and read the mentioned bugs if I think they might affect my system, as I did with the mentioned #384663 here, so I understood (and approve, since I happen to prefer most) portage losing its dependency even before I merged the update. What I don't understand is why depclean is trying to remove something that it claims is in the system profile. If it's in the system profile, why is it even trying to remove it? If it's not in the system profile, why is it saying it is? As best I can tell, the issue may be that it's virtual/pager that's actually in the system profile, not less, but that less is one of its alternate dependencies. But still, if no other alternate deb of the virtual is installed, it should refuse to unmerge it, and if one IS installed (as most is, here), it shouldn't gripe about less being in the system set, since it's not, and dependency of the virtual that is, is still fulfilled with most. So IMO the bug isn't that depclean wants to remove less (at least, as long as another pager is installed), the bug is that depclean is complaining that less is part of the system set when it's clearly not, and there's an alternate dependency filling the need for the virtual package that IS part of the system set. Either depclean needs to explain that somehow (that's a tough one to do succinctly), or it shouldn't complain at all if an alternate dependency is already installed (arguably easier), just do the unmerge without the complaint. (FWIW, I'm running the 2.2.0_alpha series here, just upgraded to alpha60, but I guess the problem is in in the legacy/stable series too, so it doesn't really matter.) Duncan

Yes, that's what bug 375115 is about.

You are correct. Duplicate, then? I guess so. I'll make this one depend on bug 375115 for now, so it will show up in more search results and hopefully we'll get fewer duplicates that way.
sry, you was right. I forgot to run env-update and source /etc/profile after unmerging (how stupid) Now man works again for sure.
