I looked over the ebuilds and I can't see why that flag is there.  Is it safe to remove?

The use flag 'hardened' is only included in the ProFTPD 1.3.3* 'stable' ebuilds (proftpd-1.3.3{d,e}.ebuild) and can safely be removed from IUSE. Please feel free to remove the use flag from both ebuilds. Thanks.

Of course it is 'proftpd-1.3.3{d-r1,e}.ebuild'. Sorry.
