Upon updating to glibc 2.14 on both my tower and my netbook, programs like Firefox started randomly segfaulting on __libc_res_nquery(). Also, others like emerge failed to resolve names at all, though they didn't crash.

Downgrading to glibc-2.13-r2 (with a small hack to disable the abortion of a glibc downgrade) appears to fix the problem.

you must post `emerge --info` with every single bug report as documented.  please also post a full build log as an attachment.
